LOLLAPALOOZA POSTER SERIES
Inspired by the funky bright aesthetic of Lollapalooza, I made a mock promotional poster series. The unconventional dye-cut-shaped posters will stand out and draw attention when compared to others.
PROCESS
I started this process with a simple writing exercise, writing about the “event of my dreams” saying it is essentially just a music festival with artists curated from my listening history.
That first exercise brought me to create my series on Lollapalooza. I then made a list of words and how I could show those words visually in my series.
Then, I got into sketching as many thumbnails as I could to spark an idea.
Sketching also included making more detailed sketch mockups of potential ideas.
My original idea was to split the word Lollapalooza up so there was some on each poster, but every way I split it up it was not legible. I went back to square one on designing and decided to do the dye-cut series that I ultimately landed on.
I did hand lettering with lighter opacity so you would be able to see some overlap to create some dimension. Then paired it with a classic Helvetica to balance out and make sure the important bits were legible.
Went through some slight variations on the hand-drawn shapes and layout before landing on the final series that is pictured at the top of the page.
